
We are living in the modern age. Modernization has improved our lifestyles and made us happier. In today’s world, everything is available in a jiffy. The modern lifestyle has made us smarter and but our lives more hectic. In the new age, we have access to the latest technological tools., hi-tech education, and better means of entertainment but all this has made us panic and worry. The stress in modern lives is becoming a curse.
But in today’s time, we are facing a new set of problems. There are technologically evolved vehicles but our roads are not suitable for them. This is causing unrest and stress among people. The fast-paced life is leading to stress. The rising population has made the cities crowded. Pollution is on the rise due to deforestation which is a cause of lung diseases. Though people live in air conditioners they cannot breathe fresh air. The air and water are contaminated due to dirt and filth. There is a huge garbage that is difficult to dump in metro cities. This in turn is leading to various diseases making people fall ill and give them sleepless nights.
The present times demand long hours of work in offices which is making people stressed and also leading to headaches and other lifestyle diseases. As there is advancement and everything is available people want more and more to satisfy their, ever-increasing desires. To fulfill the materialistic pursuits and live a glamorous life people take loans from banks and want to show off in front of their relatives and friends that they lead a lavish life. When unable to pay the debt out of stress people commit suicide.
In modern times children are neglected they feel stressed because there is a rise in nuclear families. Earlier children were brought under the shadow of their grandparents. They gave them enough love and attention but nowadays due to small families and both parents working the children become upset and anxious. It is affecting their scores making them stressed. Though the excessive use of mobile phones has made the children tech-savvy it has also made them unsympathetic and callous. There is no peace in the family and no respect for elders. The obsession with junk food has given rise to obesity early in children making them suffer from an inferiority complex and shame.
Social media was used as a tool to enhance our networking but unfortunately, the onslaught of social media has also made the lives of people stressful. It was thought to entertain people and make them more friendly and aware but nowadays it is used more to threaten and scare people. The rise in crimes because of the use of social media is also a major cause of stress among people. We live in the information age, and digitization has made our lives easy and convenient but the rise in cyber-crimes has posed a major obstacle in their use. People are duped for money and fraudulent transactions are on the rise which is leading to a high degree of stress.
In modern times there is a great deal of competition. Students are pressured to pursue professional education. This puts too much stress on them, if they are unable to cope with the burden of studies, they succumb to self-harm and extreme cases turn suicidal. The younger generation is in a mad rush to look glamorous. They invest too much in beauty techniques and pay little attention to their inner growth. The great urge to look attractive and bold forces them to spend too much money on make-overs. When they fail to feel satisfied in their lives, they become stressed. Marriage has become a business, nowadays there is a lot of pomp and show in marriages. Too much flamboyance ultimately leads to stress as a result of failing marriages. Thus, we can say that modernization has given us a lot but also made our lives complex and stressful.
